Low Income Senior Housing

Low income senior housing is a great way for seniors to live in affordable senior housing. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) helps seniors live in low income senior housing by subsidizing their rent. Since many seniors are only living off of social security, this program by HUD is especially beneficial for seniors. And seniors can live with other seniors and have people to social with.

How to Apply for Low Income Senior Housing

In order to qualify for low income senior housing, you need to be of a certain age as set by HUD. You also need to qualify within a income range too. All these information you can find on HUD's website or you can get from the housing agency. You can get the address of the housing agency from HUD's website or on the phone book. When you go to the housing agency, just fill out their application for low income senior housing. Don't forget to provide to them proof of your eligibility.

How to Find Low Income Senior Housing

The next step after the application process is to go ahead and look for low income senior housing. This can be done in several ways. You can look online. There are many websites dedicated to helping seniors find low income senior housing. Other places you can find low income senior housing is on HUD's website or in the phone book under assisted living.

Once you've found some low income senior housing complexes that interest you, you need go down there and visit the complex and find out about the neighborhood and the people living there. Nothing is worse than living in a place that you'll hate. The senior housing community should have ammenties suited to seniors. Find out if they have programs that cater to seniors. Talk to the people living there and find out how they like the senior housing community. The more ammenities a senior citizens housing has, the more expensive it will be to live there. You should try to find a happy medium between the amount of money you can afford and the ammenities that you want. For example, do you not like to golf? Then don't live in a place that has a golf course. Other things you should take note is how well the property is taken care of. If the property seems run down, then the staff there will probably just as lackadaisical in taking care of their residents.

Other Ways of Getting into Low Income Senior Housing

You don't always have to go through HUD to get into low income senior housing. Many housing for seniors don't require you to apply through HUD, although they still follow requirements set by HUD. You can submit your application directly to these complexes and they will decide whether you qualify. The main factors will always be your age and your income level.

If you still can't make it into senior housing apartments you can still opt for low income apartments for rent that don't require anything. Although you should not expect to find the complexes to be in the greatest shape or in the best areas. Of course this should only be taken at the last recourse if you cannot qualify for anything.

And yet if all else fails, hopefully you have kids that are kind and will let you stay in the guest room and take care of you.
